Here's a little know strategy that you can use at Walgreens to make or save hundreds or even thousands each year. The first Tuesday of every month is what is known as "Seniors Day" where they give people 55 and older 15% off the whole store and 20% of W brand products.
Obviously, it would be great to get that discount, but you're thinking "Rob, I'm not 55". Well, neither am I . So let's dig a bit deeper. The promotion says that the discount is available to balance reward members 55 or older AND all AARP members. Now, stay with me.....Did you know that anyone can join AARP? When you go to the AARP site it will tell you that they are a program for people over 50, but the fact is that anyone can join (and should) as long as they pay the membership fee ($16). They send you your info kit and card in the mail.
Now, you might be thinking that you don't want to join the actual AARP program, but you sure would like to get in on that discount. There are still ways to work around this. (Picture me doing a Scarface voice) "Say hello to my little friend"
This bad boy right here is a prepaid card that can be found in Walgreens and Rite Aid. It works like any other Green Dot card but is branded by AARP. When you register your card they will send you a permanent one in the mail that looks like this. Whether you ever use this card or not, heck, even if you cancel the card when you get it, this will be your golden pass to 15% off every first Tuesday.
Remember, the AARP discount is manually entered at the register so there is nothing to scan. Couponing at Walgreens is all about advance preparation. Take the time to put this in place once, and you will reap the benefits forever.
